Rain/Cdy/Fair/Fair I went to Bro Saml, in the carry all this evening met with Emily Cary John Kean & Miss H Allen at Huletts – she hird that Bro Allen was in Richmond had been exchanged

Fair/Cdy Rain/Rain Cdy/Fair I came over with Elitha left Thomasia at Bro Saml, Capt Addams was about to leave – I met Edmond & Capt Addams he lost his horse old bay at Wares place it thundered lightened & rained quite hard win blew hard etc I hired one of the Cashes to ditch in E hill & by ivy hill is to ditch for 10 cts a yard cleaning out etc planting corn on the meadow grubing etc

Va.] Eugene was at home to day Clarence had his horse killed under him on the river by a Yank I sent James to Mr D’s to hire a horse tho went to Gores ploughing cotton patch manuring

Fair/Fair/Fair/Fair I sheared my sheep & carryed a ewe to Mr Dickinsons & swaped for a ram sent Bro Sam,l home – Edmond Cary & Charles came to day E went home this evening I hird heavy firing above & by Milford, a soulgier came to get me to let there horses run in my pasture [Gen. Winfield S. Hancock’s cavalry captured Milford Station.] I went to ivy hill w Miss B & H. sheared sheep swaped one Mr D killed a lamb sent Anna a qt rakg fresh land planting corn sent Bro S,s wool got some sugar k seed

Fair/Fair/Fair/Fair Our army passing by to day crossing the river saw Capt Mccarthy [Captain Edward S. McCarthy, artillery] & others several dined hear to day I gave cash $4.00 for work that he done Miss Bettie Sanford went over to Bro Saml, on her way home Mr Johnson came by went with Edmond home the artilery etc stoped on my field – grazed there horses etc some of the Brunswick men came by [of Brunswick, Georgia?]

Rain a little/Fair/Fair/Fair I wacked up this morning with the yard full of the Enimy they took off mule corn tobacco etc etc etc etc they went off after breakfast had all of my locks broke in etc broke in bee hives etc etc etc etc etc the boys got back Mr Russle & I came slept in woods Mr do [Russle] shot at Yankey yesterday this morning hilling hills for tomatoes new garden shelled some corn etc etc

Cdy/Cdy/Cdy/Fair I made a cross fence in pasture put my horses & m in put a yoke on Jenny – the boys went to battle fld James went with Gore & Cully to carry 18 priseners to Junction Mr Tuning gave me a oil cloth made a fence across pasture planted sugar kean by Katys house

Fair/Fair/Fair/Fair I went to Providence went to Rock Castle to battle field got blankets shirts guns etc saw Cary he gave me some catterages [cartridges] etc crossed at island foard Kellys came with me Bro R Smith came by this evening – [Battle of Totopotomoy Creek, May 29-31, 1864]
