Fair day/Fair warm/Fair/Fair Mr Wm Sanders came & spent the day went back to E hill Mr Scizer came by went to mill I soled to Mr Sleds man bought 5 lams & 2 muttons gave me $165.00 for them I am to carry them to Huletts he got his dinner hear Tally S came to day H & I went to Huletts cars came late H Gant going to Springfield saw Clarrence & Capt Allen at Huletts Mrs Jardin went to Georgia saw several Yankeys on cars Cary came over John went to Bro Saml on colt I gave H $5.00 (Milly cow has her 2d calf female red.) Bob fallowing for corn near E hill grubing & halled a lode wood etc

Fair warm day/Fair/Fair/Fair H laid up Mr Sanders & Columbia came this evening went back a man came to borrow my mule lost a horse at the mill James went to Terrells with ˝ bu corn to grind John Mahon came to day spoke for land to tend E field saw old man on rode Thomasia went to Mr Pennys to see Miss P. (Mr Wiltshire died last Wednesday.) planting corn by Caty house ploughing & planting peas E field barn etc etc

Fair mild/Fair day/Fair/Fair I went to Elon & to Bro Saml no meeting at Elon Mr Talley & Mr Kimbrew wer at Bro Saml, Miss Eliza Chiles came in evening Clarrence started over with me to look for Mr T, negroes ran off saw some cavelry at little Eagle sayed the Enemy wer above Bever Dam – Depot 6 miles abou[t] fighting above Jackson whipped them etc had a great fight at F Burg to day [Second Battle of Fredericksburg; Jackson outflanked the Union right]

Fair warm day/Fair/Fair/Fair Mr Slead sent for his lambs - & got them 5 l 2 muttons sent Frank & cart to Huletts to help to hall them planting beets – Salsafy seed [salsify, root vegetable] etc Mr Mahon Jame[s] & stayed 2 hogs I altered some saw Mr Southworth & R Anderson came hurd that the Washington artilry was taken had a great fight yesterday at Fredicks-burg Jackson wounded General Baxter [Union General Henry Baxter was also wounded in the 1862 Battle of Fredericksburg but survived to 1873] killed Dr Drew taken prisner etc Yankys caryed by the mill prisners to day. planted corn ploughing cotton patch etc

A, saw Miss Moriah Columbia & Mr Sanders T went to Mr S, H is there went in morning I went to Chesterfield Depot to hear the news saw Dr Miner B Trevillion & Wm Quarles 3 North Carolinians that wer wounded I got Llewellyns things Depot. planted cotton fallowing rakg workg in garden sowed cabbage seed etc

Rain/Rain/Rain/Cdy I shelled corn sent to mill Mr George Fleming came this to spend the night brought negroes to L Grove on his way to Georgia got 5 lbs of bacon ˝ bu meal for them H & Susan S. came this evening Capt Bib died this evening shelled corn sent to mill throughing up [manure?] halled a lode wood etc

H. for butter to go to Llewellyn I offered sexton 1 bu potatoes ploughing rakg corn land etc grubing halled a lode chalf E hill etc planted corn sugar in garden etc [Jefferson Davis, Lee, & cabinet met to discuss “Summer Strategy”]
