Rain/Fair/Fair/Fair H & James went to Ct Addams I went to mill left the corn at mill Edmond came by is hear to night. Eliza Anderson is hear. Olivia Booker is dead died a short time ago [Olivia Carrington Booker,m 18 July 1823 – 28 Jun 1863] cutting wheat by house etc sent corn to mill etc

Fair/Fair/Fair/Fair I went to look for James T. he caught some fish Terrells went by N Lucks by to see Mr Martin & to Chesterfield to look for cloth I bought a box of caps Sturns for James T, pd $2.00 Eliza is sick Mary had her hair cut off to day wheat finished cutting wheat weeding irish potatoes etc sent to mill for meal & a s turn

Fair/Fair/Fair/Fair Edmond Redd came before day runing from the Enemy carryed bob & my horses Clarrence came back, went to shop to have H shod dick. Anna turned her cows in my pasture a falce alarm, Mr Buttler came by & his people, Edmond dined hear & went home this evening Eliza went home this evening Mr Southworth came by the cars came up to day I gathered some large rasberries – James went for Bob & John failed to find them reeplanting corn on meadow ploughing by barn for corn

Fair/Rain a little/Cdy/Fair I went to Carmel Bro Wortham & T Chandler wer there red a letter from Bro Poindexter – hird cannon in the direction of Richmond or at South River bridge the Enemy attacked our men this evening at bridge hear[d] firing at bridge till late in night preparied the land by kitchen & barn etc planted it in corn shelled corn etc

Cdy/Rain a little/Rain light/Cdy Thomasia & I went to Dr Lins started to Elon no preaching we went to Bro Saml, to see Eugene he came up to day or yesterday is wounded in the left rist by a saber [nephew Eugene Marion Redd fought with the 4th Va. Cavalry] Saml at home went to the church Ann Emily are at Bro S, the Yankeys burnt little Pages bridge [Little Page bridge crosses the Pamunkey river in Caroline County] & went to Taylor farm to camp Cousin Fitz got to Anna to night Anna was hear went home 10 ock to night.

Rain/Rain.Cdy/Rain hard Mr Swann came to get me to take out a snag tooth failed to get it H & I went with Mr S, to post office met with Ella she had E L she came home with us stayed till evening went to Anna, expect she got wet hird that our men had taken Baltimore etc taken 12000 prisners and near Washington [This rumor may have been started in reaction to the Battle of Gettysburg, July 1-3, 1863, in which the Union forces triumphed over Confederate forces.] planting corn by old ice house choping same thining etc sent to Terrells for meal

Rain hard/Rain/Fair/Fair very wet spell I went to the mill met with Mr Dervin from Richmond hird that General Lee had taken 52,000 priseners & wer going to send them to Richmond. Bro Penitons at work at the mill the river is quite full. I went to E hill to fan wheat finished faning or chafing etc shelling corn faning wheat etc etc

Fair/Fair/Fair/Fair H received a letter from Llewellyn he is in Pencilvania [fought at Gettysburg] I went to mill saw Mr Dickinson his mule & horses in hear sent them home Bro Saml came I went with him to turn out saw Dr Booker & Bro R S. Luck & others hird Visburg had fallen [Vicksburg siege ended with Confederate surrender on 4 July 1863] ploughing corn thining etc etc

Rain shower/Rain shower/Cdy/Cdy Thundered a great deel last night & to day Cousin Fitz & Anna came down, saw R Anderson pass says our Army are at S. Town Va. [Shepherdstown] Morgin came with 2 bundles cotton from Dandridge by Fleming

Rain hard/Cdy/Fair/Cdy I fixed a hoe with handles to plough the garden with – John went to a Mr Jones, for chickens – got 2 pd $10. Edmond came went away at night a Canfield came ploughing corn weeding & thining etc

Howitzers, died at Gettysburg] Edmond came by Colum S. came this evening thining & setting corn on meadow

Fair/Fair/Fair/Fair I went to Mr Merduth Thacker, for wheel barrow met with Dr Lin & R A & N Luck etc choping in corn

Fair/Fair/Fair/Fair I hired Gabriel of Mr Dickinson am to pay $3.00 a day to cut hay cutting at E hill – Martha [enslaved woman] child died Willy Bet to d. cutting oats John & Bob cutting hay E hill. I put up 12 shocks. saw Mr Southwar

Fair/Fair/Fair/Fair I made a coffin for Martha, child sent it to E hill to burry H carryed Elizabeth to Providence for the Dr to see her breast etc Jas went to Bro Saml, to let the girls know about the runing of the cars on F. Burg road cutting oats etc cutting hay E. H.
