Rain most of the night last & a good deel to day we came home from providence this evening the Dr gave me some Black peas & bent oat grass I brought James from Ma, he has the measles we think L at Ma, thundering & Lightning to n {shelled corn hung up the tobacco in the barn ditching fencing sent a log to mill for tobacco staves -

Fair most of the day, looks like rain to night. Ma, sent for me to prize her tobacco went down packed it in my barn it was two high. I dined at Ma, Ella was at Anna, {ditching on river flat no. 1. field. sent 4 1/2 bu corn to mill halling out manure moved fence back of stack & barn malling wood etc

Hill & Harriet to Elon to a temperance meeting at night Saml, Dr Lin & Bro Bitting spoke etc I got home about 12 ock at night – Rained in the night I planted a [?] of G corn from Mrs Hattons. Uncle Wm D Taylor died about 11 ock to day [William Day Taylor, 4 Apr 1781-17 May 1858] {planting corn by Rock Spring & ploughing etc halling manure etc working garden planted or sowed some fine bent oats in garden & planted 16 rows watermellon hills etc

Rain this evening warm & a windy day  went to Ma, & stayed a while Mary & & girls from Bro Saml, wer there Clarrence & Tom Swann the weding folks – passed by to Wiltshires hird that Mrs Cobbs was dead sent boys for Harriet Thomasia & I went to Sister Fleming Cobbs funeral she was burried this evening Bro Allen preached the funeral Sally Southworth came with us. sent pig to Mr Harris.

[wind mill?] on hill hill in the corn field sowed all my fine bent oat grass seed on meadow by rock spring Nat Wheat & Jane Bibb gone to be married [Nathaniel Fleming Wheat, 1839-1898, married Jane Eliza Bibb, 1831-1870 on 25 May 1858 in Halifax, N.C.] I went to Ma, & to Mr Taylors saw Mrs Swann & Betty Redd went to E field for big oil tin to put lye in my water mellon vines comeing up [weak lye acted as lime does]– {planted cotton hilled up potatoes sweet, planted – corn on river ploughing by rock spring I planted – some tomatoes plants by R spring sowed grass seed halling manure wood etc rails etc
