Sat 1st
mare & coalt

Fair rained a little in the morning we went to T Castle I went to Carmel Miss B Hill & caroline went to T Castle & dined we went over in the evening to Bro Sam I went with Purkins to see his hors & coalt I traded with him he gave mare & coalt and $25 to boot for my mare bet cutting rail timber malling rails etc.

Mr Tallys barn burnt

Fair cool I went to Carmel Bro Anderson red a chapter & prayed went back to Hybla. Mr Talley has his barn burnt last night and all his wheat 1000 bushels & upwards corn etc etc etc got a pair shoes from J T Andersons

Fair cool we came home this morning. Henry Feith went down Y Wm Dandridge & Barbara I caught two hairs with puppeys sent to mill for meal got 1/2 bl Dr Gouldin came to Mama, on his way to the asociation got a plough from Swanns shop had a new beam to it I pointed carryed it back again ploughing a little grubing cutting etc. Alburt Hackett came down Saturday

Rain a pretty shower this evening. Alburt Hacket came to see me partly made a bargain for another year he went to S Cobbs came by this evening I went to Walker Terrells for 5 barrells of corn pd him $1.87cts a part for the corn, put a nine board to the oxcart Pirkins brought my mare & coalt went for corn dry irish potatoes in the garden put them in seller - holled a load straw etc. Borroweed 75cts from Purkins

Rainy morning fair evening Mr Hackett came to see me to day we made a bargain - for 12 months am to give $85. I went to Miss Hills to let them know I intend working on the road Friday. bought 6 lbs corn for Mama of Canfield at $2.50 cts a barrell I am working on wheels etc pd Louise Terrell $10 for W Terrell fallowing grubing commenced pulling fodder by the house got a plough from W Swann, he put a new stock & shear to it

Fair warm day working on wheal putting on felloes?? Mr Addams came by Bro Sam came by on his way to W. Terrells for corn John W Turner came by for some wheat wants 30 bushels matthews at $1.25 a bushel faned out 3 bushels wheat & sent it to mill 1 1/2 bu medertaranean made by Bobbs pulling fodder following finished field by my barn

Fair warm worked all day on the road ploughing it etc Anna, hands failed to work on the road she is moving her citchen & barn etc etc pulling fodder shocking a little sent to mill for flour and meal 1/2 bl

Fair cool we went to Bro Sams in the evening I went to Anna, tohelp move the kitchen moved it about 10 feet in the garden working on wheals finished one pulling fodder malling rails etc etc

Fair cool I went to St Looks & Mr Buckner preached went back to Hybla spent the day

Fair cool we came home this morning working on wheat pulling fodder in old garden putting up some

Fair I faned out the wheat made on land by Cobbs 36 bushels in all I sent Bob to T. Castle for wheat fan I cleaned out the spring - Anna faned out a turn of wheat with my fan to day got a better fan Mr Hart saying the guano is to be at Chesterfield depot tomorrow faning wheet pulling fodder

Fair mild faning out wheat faned out the matthews 98 bushels out of the chaff run through once lent Anna my cart to hall rock & plank I brought my sorrel to the barn to wean the coalt faned out 98 bushels wheat

Fair foggy morning I faned out 14 bushels matthews wheat for John W Turner he got 3 of the gully wheat making 17 in all to pay for it when he gets the money We carried Kate & Princetta went to Canfields to attend to some corn of Mama, got 3 bls faning wheat put up the fodder in the barn diging potatoes by corn house

Fair most of the day I started my cart to depot for guano I went pd the postage on papers & letters more than 1 dollar - bought 2 yds nankean [pale yellow cotton cloth] for 12 1/2 a yd pd 12 1/2 cts owe 12 1/2 cts bought 1/2 lb powder for Purkins at 2/3 d a lb came by Providence for the guano brought 8 bags 1273 lbs Borrowed $ of Dr Anderson went to W Swanns for Thomasia Mr Fountain spoke for 1 bu gully wheat went for guano dryhing Irish potatoes etc etc

Fair very warm day I went to Anna, the Keans survayed the land that I got of Anna makes it about    we went to Bro Sams for the evening W Swann came by & Martin diging potatoes pulling fodder sent to mill for meal got 1/2 bl sent corn & ry for chop

Fair warm day we went to Carmel Bro Harris preached meeting at Bever Dam & Mt Olivet & Rehobeth

Fair very warm day we came home this morning Linnaeus spent the night at Sams Mr Hill & Miss Hills came over this evening pulling fodder & shocking etc

Fair warm we went to Mr Terrells & spent the day walked over to see Walker Thomasson cut out a lining for my gig putting up some fodder pulling by the house & kitchen & barn etc.

Fair I made a coam to day W Swann came to borrow my carriage pole etc Canfield came for his wheat got 5 bushels by measure - at $1.25cts a bushel to sebbtle for it when I asertain the wright Tate & his boys are at work for Mama repairing her barn Thad killed 4 squirels to day pulling up fodder pulling finished the lot grubing up etc

Rainy day I faned out 50 odd bushels of matthews wheat to day for Mr Harris & Miss Betsy Hill Tate getting shingles for Mama Edmund Redd came to Mama I made a lunch

Cdy day a little fine rain I carryed a bushel matthews wheat to the mill & weighed it it weighed 62 lbs sent word to Mr Harris & Miss Hill to send for there wheat halled a load straw & a load wood cutting tops around the house

Rain we went to T Castle & dined  went over to Bro Sams found him complaining & others in the bed Llewellyn went to T Castle Miss B Hill sent for her wheat got 25 bushels Mr Harris sent for her wheat got 25 bushels Mr Harris sent for his he got the same quantity they are to give $1.15cts a bushel Llewellyn stayed at Mama, I killed 7 rats at the barn cutting down corn around the house to keep it away from fowls

Fair a little cool I went to Carmel Bro Luck spoke & Bro Lowery preached to the coloured persons

Fair cool day I came home in the morning Edmond redd came to get me to go hunting went to look for the turkeys found none I gave the mare a dose of St Peter [powdered saltpeter, given for worms or as a tonic] went to Bro Sams spent the night sent to mill for meal got 1/2 bl pulling fodder put up same etc.

Fair I came home went back to Bro Sams Mr Gouldin is working on his rode pulling fodder by ice pond pulling fodder shocking etc

Fair warm we came home this morning Mama, hands are pulling fodder for me finished all but the new ground Tom came up I rode with him on the sorrell pulling fodder putting up some etc etc

Fair cool had a few drops rain last night thundered & lightened we went to T Castle Thomasia spent the day I went to Carmel Bro Poindexter preached Text 127 psalms verse [Psalms 127. god establishes families] very few persons at meeting all day meeting makeing bricks at Providence cutting tops putting up fodder

Fair I went to Carmel Bro Poindexter preached a fine ?? & sermons We went to Bro Sams in the evening to see Mrs McL [McLaughlin] she is very sick sent the children to Anna cutting tops tying up etc

Fair I went to Carmel Bro Pd. preached some excitement among the people I went back to Bro Sams cutting tops putting up fodder have 3 stacks the ballance in the barn

Rain showery I went to Carmel Bro Poindexter preached good many persons & exlant preaching I went back to Bro Sams [Note: Sept 30 was a Sunday in 1849]
