M1st 15$ to Jeff	Fair cold morning I went to Toping Castle foarded the Ewa got wet went to Bro Sams & to Taylorsville to the Hireing men hired for 100 dollars women 35$ came up to Bro sams & dined Jeff got home to day 15$ sent to Jerico for some cloth that Miss England wove cutting & grubbing
Tus 2nd July-Ann & children 15$ for William	Fair & cold day I went to Bro Watkins to try to get one of his sons to live with Mama came by Mrs Calmans I went to Jeff Siston Cobbs get him to take July-Ann & children offered him 20$ to take her Halling straw to the stack naleing wood cutting grubng etc. William a boy hired came to day I gave 15 dollars for the year or am to give
W3rd 13$ shop account 1848	Cdy cold day W Swann came & presented hi shop account it is 13 dollars 2d Second Redd came by 1 ?? up my meet the last & all Cutting & malling rails & Thomasia & myself & children have very bad colds & coughs
Th 4th gun	Snowed this morning it fel about 1/2 of an inch deep - Mr. Hill came over & borrowed my gun to shoot some larks - I spent the day mostly on the bed Cutting wood malling rails
Fr 5th	Fair cold day - spent the day on the bed mostly Edward Redd came by to see about sending for July Ann cutting maling halling wood
Sat 6th	Fair cold I spent the day mostly in the house cutting halling malling etc.
Sun 7th	Fair moderate weather I went to Carmel Bro Harris preached Bro Broadus s funeral serman Text 4 Ct 6 7 & 8 verses [1 Corinthians 4:6-08] and Timothy. Bro Allen spoke & prayed etc.
Mo 8th Jeff cut his hair	Cdy moderate weather Mama & Miss B Hill are getting ice today about 3 inches thick I commenced Llewellyn's hen house shelling corn Jeff washed his hair to day sent to T Castle for plastic for Jeffs hair [for scalp infection plaster, sometimes along with tar, was applied to the scalp and left for two to three days. Then removed suddenly, pulling off hair with substantial distress to patient] halling wood cutting etc etc
Tus 9th Turkeys etc.	Cdy snowed a little cold Sent to the Depot 12 turkeys & ducks & 6 guijneas Mr. Hill came over to get me to repair a wheal for him malling cutting sent to mill
W 10th wheel 50 cts a piece for fowls	Fair very cold day indeed Mr. Hill sent his cart to ?? new fellows [??] put on I went to new ground cutting halled 2 loads wood the fowls averaged 50cts around making cutting etc etc
Th 11th Smith married	Clear not a cloud to be seen Fountain Smith is to be married to Miss Betty J Burress to night Sister Sarah & Bro Harris went down. Bro Sam came over this evening I saw Smith going down cutting & malling halled a load wood burning brush etc.
Fr 12 x cut	Clear a cloud at night very cold night last & morning Mr. Hill said it was the coldest night & morning that he ever saw by 2 degrees I went to Toping castle to get [missing portion] save for Jeff's hair got 1 lb cotton malling & hallilng wooed ind ?? 3 axes one for Llewellyn Thomas B. Anderson ??? whetting & cut saw
Sat 13	Cdy rain a few drops made all the weather south win [when] Mama filled her ice house I sawed down 2 oaks at the new ground sawed off a stock We went to T Castle in the evening late - gave Dr a check to collect $126.62 cts cutting malling etc.
Sun 14th [sketch of black hand]	rain it commenced in the night moderate rain we came home this morning Jeff went to T Castle to the Dr to see his hair brought up some salve Ann died in Richmond she had a child a few days before
M 15th 1 H	Rain a shower or two Tam came by & dined Mr Noel sent to let me know he intends to come men teaching school tomorrow I went to S Cobbs to look for Miss Terrell caught a hare cutting malling grubing, etc.
Tues 16th	Fair mild I saw Mr. Noel. he's to commence school next Monday we went hunting started 3 hairs Mr. Hill came to get me to make a bar to his buggy Cutting malling grubing burning brush etc. sent to mill etc
W 17th	Rainy morning till 12 or 1 ock working on harness halled straw to the barn & stack 1 made a bar to Mr. Hills buggy I shall charge $1.00 painted it, etc.
Th 18th	Fair cold day north wind I got out to bellows for Mr Hills wheal went to new ground cutting this evening start 2 hares malling grubing halling wood
Fr 19th wheel	Fair cold day very cold night I have been working on Mr Hill's wheel most of the day got on 4 belows Billy Quarles came for his saw etc. cutting malling & grubing etc.
Sat 20th wheel	Hail and rain We went to Mamas & dined Thoma[sia] warped a piece cloth fpr [hat??] I finished Mr.Hills wheel I shall charge him 8 + halled 2 loads manure to the garden put it on the wheat halled a load or 2 to wheat patch by grave yard halled wood shelling corn
Sun 21st meeting	Rain snow etc. I went to Carmel Bro Lowery read and spoke etc. He herd of Ann's death to day
Mo 22nd $2.08 cows 2	Fair mild I went to Bro Lucks after Miss Mary Terrell Mr Hill pd for wheel & bar $2.08c sent 2 cows to T Castle to winter cutting & malling halling wood shelling corn
Tues 23rd	Fair mild I went to Bro Addams to borrow his wagon went to the sale at Mr. John Hills bought 10 or 12 barrells corn for $1.55 12 months credit Saml Estis pd me $2.50cts for a hog cutting halling wood etc.
W 24th Sale 40cts 11 bls corn	Fair mild day South win I went to Mr. Hills for corn etc. Dr. Anderson sent his wagon to help to hall the corn got 11 brs & 3 bushels bought a butter pot for 40cts halling corn 3 loads brubing etc.
Th 25th	Fair warm day Miss H Anderson & Ellas came up & spent the day I went with them to T Cstle gates - Mama has my fam to day. She lost a ster broke his neck - Mr Hulett lost one of his daughters with measles malling rails grubing piling brush etc. etc. Miss Mary Terrell is weaving to day
Fr 26th H 1 sow & pigs 10 ploughing	Fair mild day I leveled my land in front of the house. I went to Canfields to see him about putting on cart tire caught hair - found Bet with 10 pigs had 11 one killed she had them 3 or 4 days ago ploughing by the house - grubing burn up brush
Sat 27th Miss Mary Terrell Wheel part	Fair a little cool I carryed Miss Mary Terrell to Bro Lucks this morning Mr. Noel & I went to Lens and Wes Jones for a ?? + ?? ploughing sent a wheel to canfields to have a tire put on cart wheel halling wood grubing burning brush
Sun 28th	Fair mild evening I went to Cty Line Bro Allen preached 28 ch Acts last part of 15th Verse [Acts 28:15] I seat many persons Bro Saul & wife spend the day hear Anna & Emily came over are at Mamas now
M 29th	Rain showery day. I went to see Mr. Hill He wants me to hall some logs to mill one 1/2 for the other. Emily & Anna came over this evening measured up some potatoes to send to Richmond gave out going ploughing front of the house halled a load fodder shelling corn grubing etc etc
Tues 30th Shafts	Raining evening I went to T. Castle the Dr. went to Richmond this morning - I made a pair of new cart shafts to the little cart plouging halling wood grubing burning bursh sent to mill for wheel & plank weather boarding
W 31st 14 bu wheat 200 in all made in 1848	Cdy cool hailing a little to night I faned out my wheat finished faned out 14 bushels making about 200 in all with shattered & screenings etc Henry Martin came for his tools cutting melling grubing burnign brush etc faning out wheat etc.
