1st Fr

Fair warm day a south west win I hung the gate by the shop – Jack & Jessey came to day gave 25$ for the two grubing – fallowing – etc

2nd Sat

Fair mild I went to Carmel Bro Harris preached grubing ploughing etc etc I had a race after a hair

Fair a north east wind I went to Carmel Bro harris preached grubing ploughing etc etc I had a race after a hair

Rainy day shelling dorn sent to mill for meal etc halled a load of straw etc

Clear not a cloud to be seen cleared of in the night – I started to hanover got in the river & turned back again John Mc Anderson came & spent the day I turned out a hair sent Bob to Depot with [oil?] & trunk of Miss Harriet A. Anderson halled a lode of leaves grubing in corn field

Clear not a cloud Thomasia started to go to Bro Saml river passs foarding at the mill I carryed H Ann to Bro Sam's I stoped at T Castle we dined at Anna, halling leaves halled 6 loads

Rainy day. a few flakes of snow this evening I turned the calvs in hear to day made a pair or bars for the stable door working on gate latches etc beeting out oats commenced in the barn - -

Fair very cold a west win I carryed Mr Hewletts dog home made a sheep shelter sent Bob to T. Castle with a bed & quilting frames Llewellyn went to T. Castle choping along the fence

9th Sat

Fair cold finished the out gate the latches – malling rails triming around the fence on the rode

10th Sun

Cdy Commenced snowing at night. I went by T Castle carryed Molly & tro Carmel to the prayer meeting a very few persons I dined at T. Castle. .

Snow fel; last night about 1 inch deep Fair to day I went to cort pd my Taxes 9$ & 15 cts – borrowed 5$ of Mr Harris sent 4 cows to T Castle to winter halled down straw & wood etc

Fair cold getting ice it is about 2 inches thick halling with my cart & Mama,

Fair I went to Mr Keans to try to collect some money cutting & halling wood shelling corn etc

Fair mild weather I went to the mill with corn for chop etc cutting at the new ground by the shop - - - -

Fair mild weather a south wind I paid Ben Vass 33$80 cts – in full of all demand – I went to the mill to have a axe made- turned out a hair – cutting wood rail timber etc commenced ploughing finished the corn land & ploughing in peach orchard for oats

Showery the fore part of the day I moved the fence by the out gate Tom & Thomasia & I went to Mama, & dined ploughing in the peach orchard finished it

17th Sun

Fair cold day I went to Carmel Bro Harris – preached sent by I Chiles for a [?] is to cost about 5$ - -

Snow a few flakes Rainy evening comenced the shed of my barn to day fallowing the other side of the meadow grubing burnt the broom straw of the meadow by the old ice pond beeting out oats etc one of the ewes has a lamb the first this year

Rain a little this morning cdy day cutting malling & ploughing in the evening sent to mill for axe helved it & ground it - - I broke my axe

Snowy day Snow commenced last night it is about 1 1/2 inches deep – beeting out oats cutting wood halling etc etc

Fair cold day I went to Bro Sams got my boots & pd for them & shoes Tom dined there beeting out oats

22nd Fr

Fair cold day getting ice all day I shelled a turn of corn -

23rd Sat

Fair a very cold night last getting ice & finish sent to mill for meal & halling wood etc

Fair mild Mary E Redd got badly burnt to day went for the Dr he came twice to day [daughter Mary Elizabeth Redd, 1843 – 1847]

Fair or rather cdy faned out 5 1/2 bushels of wheat and sent it to mill by Bob ploughing triming around the fence etc took up the oats in the barn & locked them up – Dr came to see Mary

Cdy Dr came to see M E. Redd halled a lode of wood ploughing sent to mill for flour and chop etc triming around fence etc

Fair cold wind Dr came up to day Miss B Hill & Miss Moria T came to set up ploughing halling wood straw etc choping bushes on the fence

Fair the [??] I went around with them in the evening my child is very poly ploughing choping around the fence etc

Rain a sleet cool my poor child died to day about 5 ock in the evening Anna W Swann R. Winston & G Kean – sat up at night sent to S Gouldins for a coffin to be made beeting out oats etc etc

Fair very windy day We went to T. Castle with the corps spent the night at T. Castle Anna & Miss Mary & B hill went down. choping bushes around the fence

31st Sun

Fair mild spent the day at T Castle came up in the evening –
[Swanns shop accunt for 1847 for an axe; pointing a double plough & 3 single ploughs; beating out rake teeth; shoeing a maire; bearing out hoes; welding a handle; repairing a bolt; riveting a knife handle; mending a saw handle; nails, etc.]
