Fair mild frost I went to T. Castle for Mrs Mclin came up brought some sweet potatoes sowed 5 bu oats raked some over finished sowing 5 bu oats sowed got 1 gal of vinegar of N Lucks at 1/-

Fair warm Sister Emily dined hear to day Bro Saml came by this evening. Finished ploughing in oats rakeing in etc ploughing for sweet potatoes sent to mill.

Fair warm ploughing by Cobbs grubing finished rakeing in oats this morning I fixed up the gate trimed up my apple orchard hiling sweet potatoe hills

Sweet Potatoes

Cdy morning a drop or two of rain I went to Chiles Burg to muster mustard {borrowed Mama' mule ploughing grubing planted sweet potatoes finished planting got a 1/2 bu of Ma halled a lode of straw & fodder wood etc put corn in soak Alsop corn {plastered a part of my sweet potatoes three rows above the apple tree three rows the first has ashes in the hill

Fair and cool day We went to T. Castle I went to Carmel Bro Allen preached Text Rev. 12th Ct last part of 10 verse We came up home – I gave $1.00 for foreign mission society set a blue turkey

Fair a large frost planting corn by Cobbs I soled my long gun for $5.25 cts to Mr V. Vass Pd for

Fair a cold north wind very cold day planting corn broke my rake planted one row of corn without any preperation the 3rd row from the pine inside the fence & a stick stuck by the new fence

Fair cool a cold night last all of the fruit is killed most of it I soled a bushel & a half of potatoes 75 cts planting corn sent a plough to the mill Katy laid up to day

Fair mild – Finished planting corn to day by Cobbs commenced planting 27the of March rakeing the new ground by Dabs sent to mill for meal Corn finished

Fair winday coaltering the new ground by Dabs rakeing & grubing & burning brush

Fair mild I sold 3 bu of potatoes for $1.00 finished coaltering rakeing commenced ploughing the potatoe patch halled 3 loads of wood etc Cousin Nancy Radford came to Mama, to day

Fair mild spent the day at home sent George to T Castle for my paper

Fair mild I went to the B. Green Pd Bro Turner 9$ & 80 cts for corn & Mr Buttler $1.50 cts for Miss Chiles for making coat borrowed Mama, mule to plough the new ground halling out manure listing the ground Anna came up to day

15th Tus

A small shower of rain commenced planting Irish potatoes mercer 3 bu halling manure etc Cousin Nancy Radford came over this evening put the steer in pen with calvs I cut 3 boars

Fair warm to night Finished planting Irish potatoes in new ground planted 7 bu Mercers planted some corn tuscaroura [Iroquois white corn] ploughing a potatoe patch by my barn halling manure Turned out my cattle in the pasture

Fair day evening Dr Gouldin came up this evening Finished ploughing the potatoe patch & planting it planted 2 bu red potatoes halling manure etc Minor commenced ditching for me to day at 50 cts per day

18th Fr

Cdy & misty last Dr Gouldin by gig to go to E. C. Taylor's Finished planting potatoes 4 bu in all of the red one ploughing the orchard [apple?] halling wood ditching etc

Fair Bro Saml had 1 1/2 bu of potatoes I bought a point of land of Anna at $4 & acre cutting out the celler we went to T Castle in the horse cart halling rails around the orchard fencing etc ploughing the patches etc

Fair I went to Carmel Bro Harris preached text 2nd Peter 3rd ct 10th verse We came home Mrs Anderson is very sick in bed Edmond C Taylor had 1 bu potatoes.

Fair a little cool to day moved a log house ploughed the land for cymblings halling manure from the kitchen in the orchard for cotton I hurt my back lifting [penmanship practice – Harriet S Redd & Mrs Elizabet R]

Fair. we went to Mr Gouldins, spent the day. I had 2 new shoes put on the mare in front. etc halling manure in the orchard for cotton Harris lade up this evening

Fair I have been housed most of the day Horace is still housed Minor is ditching today ploughing in the orchard for cotton and pumpkins cleaning before the ditcher Harris ploughing for Anna her potatoes etc

24th Thu

Fair very warm I went to Goldans-ville to the election & voted for Broaddus and Newton fenced in the orchard ditching halling rails from the smiths shop down the fence patching it up etc had the fire to get away

Rain in the evening a great wind the hardest I most ever saw a fire got away this evening & burnt through the field & was put out by the rain. a great deal of fencing blown down ditching halling out manure for pumpkins, I went to L Terrells for 250 bricks gave $1.25 cts for the bricks fencing etc a south west wind raining Thomasia went to Mrs Swans this evening I went for her etc

Fair & warm had a small rain last night fencing all day moved Anna fence etc rakeing the cotton beds pulling manure in the hills for pumpkins etc ditching Minor left 1 hour by the sun this evening

27th Sun

Rain this evening and a very hard wind I went to Cty Line Bro Text 2nd Corinithians 3rd ct most of the latter part Linnaeus came by & dined

Rain this evening & a great hail & wind thundered & lightened great deal planted cotton ploughed up the garden cotton [patch?] ditching etc Mama & family came over this evening

Rain hail etc this evening set out greens & tomatoe plants in the orchard patching the garden fencing mending the rode from my house towards Lucks shop ditching Let C Fox have 1 bu of potatoes for which he is to pay 50 cts.

Cloudy day cool Bob Lade up to day Mrs Vaughn had a 1/2 bu potatoes and 4 1/2 lbs bacon 2 lbs lard etc soled 1/2 bu pot for 22 1/2 cts finished the fence from the orchard to the stable put up a pair draw bars etc put the manure in a pen under the barn replanting corn ditching
