1 st F

Fair warm day Dr Anderson & Mr Moncure [possibly William Augustus Moncure, 1803-1862; he represented Caroline & Spotsylvania Counties in the Virginia House & Senate from 1847 to 1856.] came to Mama’s to execute a deed & I got the deed Mr Martin is hewing & cutting poles I sowed a plant bed in the garden cutting stalks down ploughing halling logs wood etc Lewis came to night for thomasia to go over to stay Bro Saml has another Daughter [Barbara Marchmont Redd, 1844-1922]

2 nd Sat

Cdy a drop or two of rain We went t Hybla about twelve {sowing clover see din the old orchard burnt the meadow over halling logs sent to mill for timber carried a log cutting down stalks etc Mr Martin worked till 1 Oclock went to the new ground with his Father etc

3 rd Sun

Cdy a little rain I went to Carmel from Bro Saml Bro Harris preached Text. Isaiah 48 chapter 18 verse a very fine sermon I went by T Castle carried Llew some apples etc went back to Hybla Rained last night & thundered & lightened

plough

Fair cool day I came home to breakfast Mr Martin has been working in the shop fising a plough W Durriott dined hear to day. I weighed a moal board belonging to Mama. It weighed 12 lbs and a shear belonging to S Redd weighed 7 1/2 lbs ---- halling logs pine grubbing by Canfields on the fence Canfield made a bolt or two for a plough William Smith got his corn out of the shop to day

5 th Tus

Clear scearcely a cloud cool a cold night I sowed some clover seed at the new ground Canfield & Bob done up the ploughs 3 to day with my iron etc cold he worked about 3 hours Mr Martin finished the plough and rake this morning we went about the barn lade the foundation halling rails by Canfield’s ploughing grubbing on the fence by Canfields etc Dick Bullard dined & spent the night with me

6 th W

Fair Sowed clover seed on the new ground finished it etc Mr Martin & self about the house made a yoke Canfield put in 6 teeth in my rake burnt them in I went to Hybla in the evening Dick & Durriott were there. Ploughing grubbing halled chaf over hear. Fodder stalks etc Faned out 35 bushels of oats with Miss B Hills fan

Cdy threatened rain I came home this morning. 5 fish caught in a net at S R,s Mr martin & myself have been at work on the barn I sowed 4 bushels of oats on the fallowed land. Rakeing them in halling rails sleepers etc grubing

8 th F

Rainy day showery Mr Martin has been at work on the safe the most of the day worked about 3 hours on the house Dick came from SRs this morning dined and is going to spend the night I worked on my wheels a little to day sowed about 1 bushel of oats halling, patched up the stables etc

Rainy day or showery day Mr Martin has a sore leg cut it Bob worked on the garden making it larger halling rails grubbing Dick went home saw Mr Chandler I went to T Castle carried Miss H. A. Anderson to Hibla

Clear scearcely a cloud cool day I went to the fish trap caught 10 fish we came home this evening saw Dr D & others at Hibla

Fair Mr Martin and myself have been at work on the house Mr W B. Gatewood pd me 15$ for the estate of S R,s finished the garden fence halling rails wood etc rakeing in oats 5 bushels burning brush on the rode John & Aggy came up this evening Dr Anderson went to Richmond

Rainy day a south east win Mr Martin worked about 2 hours this morning he went to the mill to carry his axe to have it done up by Winston sowed 1 bushel of oats ploughing for corn halling rails wood etc shelling corn a Bro Collins went from Mama,s this morning I gave Mr Harris an advertizment of potatoes to put up at A Burs

Fair Mr Martin worked till 11 Oclock & went to the shop for his axe Edmond Anderson sent for his vice & drum etc I saw W Swann he gave me his account halling rails sent to mill for meal fencing by Canfields sold Mr Lane 1/2 bu Irish potatoes Linnaeus came up with the Dr

Rainy day it rained last night Mr Martin worked till 10 Oclock it commenced raining we went in the shop Mr martin is stocking a plough for Mama got up some fellows put them in a shed etc halling rails working the black steer fencing below the gate

Rainy day Mr Martin working for Mama fixing doars etc I helved a axe working on my wheal etc striping tobacco Canfield mended my cart tung irons

Fair it rained all night last night we went to T Castle & to Carmel Bro Harris preached Text 1 st Timothy 1 st Chap 5 th verse cane up home this evening. Tom came up this evening

Fair very winday day cold Mr martin at work on the house I sold 1/2 bushel potatoes 25 cts to Dickinson fencing rakeing halling rails wood etc sent for some things at T. Castle for a duck eta Dick came up to D,

Clear scearcely a cloud cool a hard freeze last night Mr Martin and Dick at work on the house halling rails a load poles etc sowed 5 bushels of oats fencing Dr A Came by to see Tom

Rain a little in the evening Mr Martin and Dick at work on the house. Halled 2 logs for the top of the house ploughing in oats – 6 bu the ditcher came this evening to go to ditching grubbing etc I saw Linnaeus by the shop

21 st T

Fair cold winday day Anna Sister Sarah & Emily T dined hear to day. Mr Martin and Dick getting timber sawing sawed 6 pines for shingles I went to E Terrell’s to see him about some timber rakeing oats over haling rails wood etc sent to mill grubbing etc

22 nd Fry

Fair day commenced raining about night a match showre Mr Martin and Dick got 2 trees at the new ground making 3 stacks of S Redd working on the house beeting out oats halled 2 logs to the house for shingles, ploughing in oats 3 bu etc Doctor died this evening I turned out the boar

23 rd Sat

Fair Mr Martin & Dick worked till diner and went away we went to T Castle in the evening sowed clover sed and 3 bu oats all of the ruffle oats beeting out in the barn etc huing down the house etc

24 th Sun

Fair a fine day I went to Bro Saml for my umbrella came home this evening from T. Castle Tom with us

Fair pleasant weather Mr Martin and dick working on the house sawing etc Dick got back about 11 ock to day finished beeting out oats wined them measured 11 bu sowed 2 or 3 bu on the rode rakeing ploughing the garden etc grubbing etc I sold 2 bu potatoes to CApt Price for 1$.

Fair a very warm day I went to S Gouldins to make a line Dr Gouldin came over this evening to see his timber at the new ground Mr Martin & Dick are hewing down the house sowing oats of the rode 2 bu sowed planting seed in the garden corn etc sent George to T Castle to carry letters etc

Fair warm day halling logs to mill 2 oaks. got 3 by the shop I borrowed Mam,s steers Mr Martin drove the cart Dick mended my rake this evening. sowed 2 bu oats ploughing by the new ground etc the ditcher George finished the ditch I pd him 6$.75 cts he belongs to J K Luck

Rain in the evening warm day we halled 4 logs to the house for shingles with Mama, steers Mr Martin drawing shingles I hird a whippoorwill hollow this evening Finished sowing oats 11 bu scotch rakeing them in etc

29 th F

Rainy evening I went to the Depot for my boots and I got a pair gave 4$ for them left a pair to be mended had a pair ordered for Llewellyn halling joice for the house – Dick helping Billy Mr Martin getting shingles worked 1/2 d rakeing oats etc

Cdy a cold day the ground froze last night we went to T Castle came back this evening Dick went to Dr Gouldins this morning caught some young owls Linaeus & H A Anderson went to Richmond last thursday
