1st Oct S

Cdy. I staid at T Castle all day takeing quinine. 3 or 4 doces

2nd M

Fair. I came home in the evening from T. C. I am about the same not able to go about much Linnaeus went to see Mr Lewis at Mrs Terrells Dr A was quite sick last night but better cutting tops stacking fodder finishing a stack that was partly up W Swann killed Mr Lanes dog 2 Mr Martin & Fleming about the ice house worming and suckering tobacco etc cutting tops

3rd T

Fair windy day Brother Saml came by hunting trail I rode a good deel about the plantation sent Walker to T. Castle for a loom set it up cutting tops stacking blades etc hitched the black steer he ran away took him out etc 2 cutting tobacco getting tobacco sticks cutting tops took down a stack & put it up again Mr Martin & Fleming are about the ice house wetherboarded the ends & commenced shingling the top

Fair cool. sent for Miss Moriah spent day to help put the cloth in the loom for my clothes Brother Saml & Dr Dericote went hunting & caught a fox. I saw Edmond C Taylor & Dr G. - cutting tops stacking fodder or bringing it up to stack on the rode I killed a partridge 2 cutting tops tying up etc commenced the stack frame diging the holes by Dab's hours

Fair a little frost a very pretty day one of my hogs died lost several finished stacking blade fodder cutting tops tying up etc Cousin Mary Ann knit me a pair socks lost 10 hogs small & big from mushrooms 2 Finished cutting tops making stack frame Fleming helping Mr Martin about shingles

6th Fr

Fair warm Llewellyn was quite sick cutting tops tying up etc made a hog pen on the swamp I cut my boar & put him in the pen sent Bob for a cask of sider at Mr Philly Gatewoods - 2 makeing a stack frame cutting balks halling rails & Fleming & Mr Martin is working on ice house shingleing it etc

7th S

Cdy rain a little in the morning I went to muster at Chburg Tom B Anderson [brother-in-law Thomas Bates Anderson, 1829-1899] Dr D and others caught [reward?] went with me We went over in the evening to Brother Saml he has 2 rabits finished cutting tops cut a little tobacco 2 cut tobacco made the stack frame Fleming is at work on the ice house etc

8th Sun

Rain till evening cleared off we came home in the evening brought 8 or 10 small may goards from Bro Samls

9th M

Changeable cool I went to the Bowling Green to coart tryed to sell John & paid 25 cts for crying [currying?] my horse stack frame makeing etc 2 stacking fodder etc Fleming & Mr Martin are about the ice house

10th Tus

Fair cool day I went to T. Castle Dr & Mrs A & Linnaeus are all sick, together with 15 or 18 negroes made a stack frame halling rails cutting tobacco and corn on the hill - - in the orchard etc 2 finished stacking fodder cutting tobacco cutting down corn etc Mr Martin finished the ice house

Fair I went to Sister S Redds by Taylorsville and the strem [stream?] stacking tops etc 2 cutting down corn halling etc made a fence around the stack. Fleming makeing steps etc

Rain in the evening I went to Richmond & bought some goods dined with Dandridge put up 8 hogs to fatten stacking fodder tops erc 2 cutting down corn halling etc tobacco etc made a hog pen etc

13th F

Rain in the evening I came up to T. Castle came by T,vill [Taylorsville] I promised to send John horse down for Uncle B to sell finished tops stacking etc 2 about the corn tobacco etc [multiplication figures]

14th Sat

Fair a large Frost killed tobacco I came home from T. Castle a cold day etc went back in evening finished cutting my tobacco haling rails cutting balks and cutting down corn etc 2 finished cutting tobacco cutting down corn at the ivy hill shucking and stacking up corn etc

15th Sun

Fair a frost large one I staid all day at T Castle sick etc

16th M

Fair a large frost cool still sick confined to the bed. Thomasia came home to give out feed etc I got Mr Martin to sow wheat commenced by the shop Brother Harris came to T Castle 2 commenced sowing wheat by the parth as you go to the meadow sowed 3 bu

Fair a large frost still confined to the bed at T C Brother Harris came to T Castle at night from the weeding [wedding?] Sam Terrells to marry a cople Rody to Renols Mr Martin sowing wheat for me 2 sowing wheat halling up corn cutting down etc sowed 3 bu

18th W

Fair a frost cool day I came home from T. Castle drove [mount?] a [new, nick??] I am still sick. sowing wheat ploughing it in with 2 horses B & Lewis 2 sowing wheat sowed 3 bu of red forward halling up corn etc

19th Thurs

Fair moderate weather I rode out twice to day. digning sweet potatoes & a few irish potatoes etc sowing wheat by the out gate etc Mr Martin shot a turkey 2 sowing wheat at the ivy hill cutting down corn etc sent Peter went to the depot for the things they are at T Castle

Fair warm & winday sowing wheat, finished diging sweet potatoes commenced diging Irish up on my lot and put them in shop got my things from Richmond [gun?] shot Tea wool gret coart stocks Hank a peace cloth etc etc 4 1/2 cts 2 sowing wheat at the ivy hill and by the barn or shop Peter went to T Castle for the things halling corn cutting down etc commenced grubing up tobacco stubbles & sweet potatoes etc

21st Sat

Fair warm day winday a south wind Mr Martin & self went hunting on the river he killed 2 ducks I shot twice at the duck Mr Harris came for his wheat and brought his fan he got 10 bu & left his fan for me to fan my wheat diging irish potatoes and put them in the shop sowing wheat and reakeing it in 2 Sowing wheat by the barn & garden fixed a scaffold in the new corn house finished diging sweet potatoes etc rakeing in the wheat land

22nd Sun

Rain in the evening a north wind cold rain John & Louisa came up to day & dined Tom dined here put up my tobacco and Ma, tobacco

Fair a little cool and windy Went over to S Gouldins to see about timber for kitchen Raking wheat and opening water furrows and digging Irish potatoes Thomasia put them up went to T Castle was taken sick had a severe chill and spent a restless night got 3 bushels of wheat of brother Samuel 2 sowing wheat about the house digging Irish potatoes sent to brother Samuels for 10 bushels of wheat and shuck

24th T

Fair & pleasant Mr Martin had my wheat run through the fan and Bob carried the fan home Lewis and Walker ploughing wheat Martha picking up potatoes I am still confined to the bed Dr Gouldin and Linaeus came to see me 2 Digging Irish potatoes & sowing wheat

25th W

Rain in the morning John M L came up here Linnaeus Dr Goulding Anna & Mama came to see me this evening I am still confined to the bed been taking Quinine all day Finished sowing wheat on fallowed land ploughed it in but did not finish raking Commenced halling up corn this evening 2 Commenced sowing white wheat at the Ivy Hill & getting off corn

26th T

Rainy day halled up some wood picking over sweet potatoes Mama and children sick I am still in bed though a little better put a Winters plaister [mustard plaster?]on my breast 2 Shelled some new corn picking sweet potatoes Halling wood etc

27th F

Rainy morning fair in the evening Finished sorting sweet potatoes halling and sitting up corn commenced shucking at night Brought the beef to the house to night got a half bushel of Spencer for which I am to pay 37 1/2 cts still confined to the bed took a dose of salts Mr Gouldin is halling corn from Thacker's 2 mended the road this morning halling corn shucking etc

Fair a cool day Mr Gouldin came this morning to breakfast and killed a beef for me a spoted heffer Dr Gouldin dined here carryed away his leather 12 1/2 lbs. at 16 cts - finished the beef about 10 oclock Commenced diging the Irish potatoes [??] at the house & putting them in the seller. cut out the beef in evening Mr Luck ran a fence between this and Thackers I am a little better sitting up 2 about the corn cutting down and halling etc put up the cattle that were in the woods

29th S

Fair warmer I am about a little walked out doors Llewellyn went to T C John came back with him & brought my powder 4 lbs and 2 boxes of caps one for M. Terrell for which he is in debt to me for it. Uncle William sent John home to day by John I sent Brother Saml, horse home by Bob

Fair I rode out this evening to the shop and around Brother Saml came over to divide the fodder & oats we divided them roughly I gave S. Redd $10. to pay William Dandridge for wool powder & caps 2 boxes & 4 lbs powder I sent for a clock & casting & sifters for a wheat fan Mr Martin is sowing wheat, white w. on the hill in the old orchard diging irish potatoes etc raked over a little wheat by my old stable 2 sowing wheat at the Ivy hill halling corn shucking at night etc

31st T

Fair a north wind cool day Tom rode up hear this morning I rode out this evening sent for Mama's bull and brought him over Mr Martin sowing wheat in the orchard finished diging the potatoes at the house and diging on my lot etc shucking corn sent my 1/2 bu to shop 2 sowing wheat the the Ivy hill halling corn shucking at night etc cutting down corn etc
